Alexander Wang Spring Summer 2010 - Bostonista

I have to say I’m really disappointed with the Alexander Wang collection. There are pieces that I loved but overall it was disappointing.
The idea at Alexander Wang seemed to be a country club/preppy girl deconstructing her clothing and turning to grunge. At times the idea worked–I really liked the skirt that ties in the front around the waist like a sweatshirt or flannel shirt– but at other times it was too much of a literal interpretation that made the collection far too kitschy to really be taken seriously.
Then there was the completely out of place black cocktail dresses. I admire Wang for trying to branch out but I don’t look to him for evening wear. At the same time it also felt like they were there as a “safety” net for the collection under the assumption that glittery black dresses always sell and always work on the red carpet. So maybe he wasn’t branching out so much as trying to play it safe in a volatile economy.

  1. Hey! Glad to see a site based in Boston. I agree about the collection — dissapointing. the underwear and sweatshirt-knit balloon sleeves ruined it for me.

  2. I think the color scheme could have been a bit more varied. 🙂
