The internet has been going crazy over this picture of cute-as-button Piper Palin carrying what appears to be a Louis Vuitton bag at a recent rally. We all know that the GOP forked over $150,000 to Sarah Palin for a shopping spree at Neimans and Saks but did it include a $790
monogramed Louis Vuitton? Um. No. It didn’t. That bag is as fake as McCain’s smiles during the last debate.
Considering that President Bush just signed an anti-counterfeiting bill putting $25 million towards preventing the creation and sale of fakes as well as stiffer consequences for pirates of intellectual property is it appropriate for a high profile candidate to be endorsing carrying a fake?
A lot of people don’t see the harm in a knock off bought off the street. And I’m all for recreating a runway look or high end trend in an inexpensive way especially in this economic climate. But there is a difference between being stylish on the cheap and buying a fake, copyright infringed bag off the street.
This bag that she is allowing her 7-year-old daughter to carry was produced by a child, in a filthy usually underground factory for very, very little money. And most of these factories are in US cities because it’s easier to produce them here than smuggle the counterfeits into the US.
It is common knowledge that the sale of counterfeit luxury goods supports human trafficking and child prostitution. Some say that it helps to fund terrorism. Regardless, it flaunts child labor laws so extremely they might as well not exist.
It’s possible that Sarah Palin isn’t aware of any of this. It’s possible she believes that it is a real LV bag. If thats the case then there is something unsettling about allowing a 7 year old to carry a $790 bag in front of a struggling America.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! I had assumed this was a real bag and was included in the shopping spree, and now I am not sure what scenario is worse- having the fake bag, or a child toting around a status symbol!
