Russian born designer, Katya Leonovich, was inspired by American football for her Spring/Summer 2012 presentation at Lincoln Center.
Sexy, and unabashedly cool, the collection reminded me more of Surf culture than Monday Night Football.
Most of the colorful collection’s pieces were hand painted with such lovely prints that were almost in stark contrast with the deconstructed nature of the garments.
But, thanks in part to Leonovich’s couture background, the beautiful chaos of each piece melted into a cohesive collection.
This dip-dyed denim patch dress (one of my favorites from the collection) looks pop star ready.
Admittedly, some of the denim looks and bra tops felt a bit dated.
I couldn’t help but be reminded of two 2001 red carpet moments…
Katya’s best work came in the form of her draped and gathered chiffon dresses.
Overall, this was a fun, almost avant-garde collection that brought a completely different feeling to NYFW!
Thanks to everyone at Katya Leonovich and MAO PR!
