THE OSCARS FASHION! - Bostonista

White was the color of the night! From Anne Hathaway to Evan Rachel Wood at least six big names and nominees were wearing white. And it worked really well. I think there is a sort of belief that young women especially should avoid white for formal events in case you look too bridal. But even Penelope Cruz in her vintage Balmain (its sixty years old) wedding dress looked more regal than bridal. I wore white to my senior prom and it makes you stand out in a sea of blacks, reds and pastels.
Here is my Top 4 best dressed list for this years Oscars…
4. Natalie Portman in Rodarte! I’m not a huge fan of Portman but her appearance on the red carpet was stunning in this sweet Rodarte gown. Notice the red and white crystal detailing on the bodice? A glamorous but subtle touch. I find the color to be particularly brave since it could have clashed with the red carpet and also because she tends to wear blacks, whites and other neutrals on the red carpet. But it was worth the risk! Lovely!
3. Last years winner, Marion Cotillard, wore an amazing dress that you might remember from the Dior Haute Couture Fall 08. She altered the top part of the dress and, unlike Sarah Jessica Parker who also wore altered Dior HC Fall 08, kept the integrity and form of the dress intact.
2. Mommy Dearest couldn’t believe how breathtaking Marissa Tomei in Atelier Versace was and neither could I! At first I was unsure about the fan of pleating around the knees but the dress grew on me immensely and honestly it moved like water around her on the red carpet. Just absolutely beautiful.
1. Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive! She looked like a mermaid with a shimmering fin and I just loved it. It was elegant and over-the-top and just superb for the first time nominee. It hugged every curve without being vulgar and although you may not have seen it she pinned the back of the dress with a stunning black onyx broach. It was the perfect way of accessorizing an entirely swarvoski crystal covered gown without overwhelming it. Perfection!

  1. I loved Evan Rachel Wood and Sarah Jessica Parker’s gowns. Perfection!

  2. Anne Hathaway’s Dress – amazingly beautiful. I LOVED it. Also a huge fan of the Rodarte number on Natalie – but I also really liked Penelope Cruz’s vintage Balmain.
