I went to elementary/middle school in Newton and sometimes on the way back and forth we’d pass the legendary Yolanda’s in Waltham. The building itself, white, and brick (I seem to remember grecian columns at the entrance) held a certain mystique and I’d always crane my neck to get a glance at the beautiful wedding dresses in the window from my perch in the back seat of my dad’s car. If I had known then that a real life Barbie (Yolanda Cellucci) owned and ran the store I probably would have deemed the place heaven.
Yolanda has built a bridal empire in Waltham that included a health club/spa, beauty salon, and of course a gasp-inducing formal wear/bridal selection. Brides were treated to a complete princess experience at Yolanda’s while shopping for their gowns as Yolanda believed that they should be! With selections from Reem Acra, Monique L’huillier, and Badgley Mischka it would be hard to not feel special!
Yolanda announced today that she has decided to close her legendary store next month after 41-years of business! The 74-year old is planning on spending more time with family but will continue being one of Boston’s most glamorous women!
Unfortunately, I’ve never had the opportunity to step into those hallowed halls- and now it seems unlikely that I ever will- unless I can convince Mommy Dearest to look at the selection of Mother-of-the-Groom gowns for my brother’s upcoming nuptials!
The final sale begins next week with everything in stock at 50-75% off!

How sad! She looks like quite the lady…. and wish i was getting married to take advantage of that sale! haha 🙂
She has the spirit of a Las Vegas Showgirl. Love her! 🙂
Oh no! I actually had the opportunity to meet Yolanda at a school fashion show I was in. She was just as fabulous as one would expect from her picture. I've never been to Yolanda's and its heart breaking that now I never will!
By the way, this is one of the many times I love reading the blog of a fellow bostonian!
